A great publishing success story.  A breakout book on the ninth try, by an author who never stopped working, even when the chips were down.

Topics of conversation include:  Algonquin, elves, false summits, neuroticism, criticism, Amazon rankings, life-changers, Waltham, disorientation, fear, bullies, bad luck, Ann Arbor, Berkeley, Brandeis, Norman Mailer, bad teachers, Hoboken, Manhattan, and depression.

Monologue topics:  famous recluses, homeless speed freaks, making out with strange dogs.

  3. I loved this interview. First, the crystal clarity of the sound made listening a dream. Second, Brad–you are a wonderful interviewer. Third-Caroline-you are a wealth of delight. Fourth–I love the details and hidden mazes that you both unearthed as you talked deeper and deeper about writing, publishing, and all the strange, funny, ridiculous, and often terrible things you endured, Caroline, to get where you are today.

This was a gem! I’m so glad it’s a podcast that can be enjoyed by all at any time.

  4. Caroline Leavitt is wonderful! Period. “Tenacity” and “triumph” describe her character indeed but I also want to add that she’s really funny, too!

  5. Thank you for the interview with Caroline Leavitt. The only problem is that she spent alot of time bragging about being the poster child for never giving up and nothing, not a word, about being the most generous writer on the planet. Which she is. Next time, ask her about that!

  7. This is a wonderful interview. Such a comfortable, in-depth talk. I felt like you both were in my living room. Brad, you asked all the questions I hoped you would. It was so great to learn all of these things about Caroline’s amazing work and her journey. So much to admire and be inspired by.
